Brandon Moreno Biography – Brandon Carrillo Moreno (born December 7, 1993) is a Mexican professional mixed martial artist who fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight category, where he is the current UFC Flyweight Champion. He has been a professional since 2011, and he previously competed in the Legacy Fighting Alliance, where he held the title of LFA Flyweight Champion. He is currently ranked #11 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings as of July 12, 2021.

Brandon Moreno Background – Moreno grew up in Tijuana, Mexico, in a humble family who ran a piata company. He wanted to lose weight when he was twelve, so his mother registered him in the local Entram Gym, where he began training in mixed martial arts. Moreno decided to focus completely on his mixed martial arts career, despite his former plans to go law school and become a lawyer.

Brandon Moreno Career – Moreno made his professional MMA debut in April 2011 in his home country of Mexico. He went on to win six games and lose three over the next two years.
Moreno would make his World Fighting Federation debut in 2014. He would go undefeated in the promotion, going 5–0, and eventually win the Flyweight championship, earning him a spot in the Flyweight tournament on The Ultimate Fighter 25th season.
Moreno was reported to be a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter: Tournament of Champions in July 2016. Moreno was chosen to be a part of Team Benavidez. In the first round, he fought Alexandre Pantoja and lost by decision.

Moreno made his UFC debut while his season of The Ultimate Fighter was still airing, which is an uncommon move. On October 1, 2016, he fought Louis Smolka at UFC Fight Night: Lineker vs. Dodson. Moreno won the bout in the first round by submission. Moreno also received his first Performance of the Night bonus award as a result of his victory.
On December 3, 2016, at The Ultimate Fighter: Tournament of Champions Finale, Moreno fought Ryan Benoit for the second time for the promotion. He was awarded a split decision victory in the fight.
On April 22, 2017, Moreno fought Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 108. He was granted a Performance of the Night bonus after winning the bout by submission in the second round.
On August 5, 2017, Moreno fought Sergio Pettis at UFC Fight Night 114. He was defeated by a unanimous decision. Moreno tested positive for clenbuterol in an in-competition urine sample taken the day after his fight with Pettis on August 6, 2017. Because the presence of clenbuterol in Moreno’s system was determined to be the product of clenbuterol-contaminated meat consumed in Mexico, Moreno was not sanctioned by USADA.
On April 7, 2018, Moreno was set to battle Ray Borg at UFC 223. The match was called off after Borg was hurt by shattered glass from a bus window by Team SBG. The fight was quickly rescheduled for May 19, 2018 at UFC Fight Night 129, with the pairing remaining intact. Borg, however, withdrew from the fight to care for his child who was recovering from brain surgery, and was replaced by Alexandre Pantoja. Moreno was defeated by a unanimous decision in the fight. Moreno revealed in a 2019 interview that he was released by the UFC in late 2018.
Moreno inked a multi-fight deal with the Legacy Fighting Alliance and made his promotional debut on June 7, 2019 at LFA 69 against current Flyweight Champion Maikel Perez. Moreno won the bout in the fourth round by technical knockout.
On September 21, 2019, at UFC on ESPN+ 17, Moreno faced promotional newcomer Askar Askarov. The match concluded in a draw after a back-and-forth battle.
On December 14, 2019, Moreno fought Kai Kara-France at UFC 245. He was declared the winner by a unanimous judgment.
On March 14, 2020, Moreno fought Jussier Formiga at UFC Fight Night 170. He was declared the winner by unanimous decision.
Moreno was set to meet Alex Perez at UFC 255 on November 21, 2020, in the first fight of his new contract. However, it was reported on October 2 that Cody Garbrandt, who was set to face Deiveson Figueiredo for the UFC Flyweight Championship at UFC 255, had pulled out due to a torn bicep and had been replaced by Perez. Instead, Moreno was pitted against Brandon Royval. In the first round, he won via technical knockout.
On December 12, 2020, at UFC 256, Moreno fought Deiveson Figueiredo for the UFC Flyweight Championship. The contest was called a majority draw after five rounds of furious back-and-forth combat, with Figueiredo losing one point in the third round owing to a groin strike. Both competitors received the Fight of the Night award for this fight.
On June 12, 2021, Moreno fought Figueiredo for the UFC Flyweight Championship in a co-headlining event at UFC 263. In the third round, Moreno submitted Figueiredo with a rear naked choke after dominating the striking and grappling exchanges. This victory earned him the award for Best Performance of the Night.
The UFC Flyweight Championship trilogy rematch with Figueiredo was originally slated for December 11, 2021 at UFC 269, however it was postponed to UFC 270.
