A Fourth of July parade in this wealthy Chicago suburb was broken by gunshots and turmoil, leaving six people dead and about 24 injured, according to authorities.
Residents were advised to take cover since the gunman, who was described as a Caucasian male with black hair between the ages of 18 and 20, was still on the loose. Minutes after the incident started at 10 a.m. local time, video from the area shows a large number of individuals rushing for shelter as music is still playing.
According to Lake County Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli, the shooter appeared to have started firing from a rooftop. Despite the fact that a rifle was found on the scene, Covelli warned that the suspect should still be treated as armed and dangerous.
Authorities are still searching for the Highland Park shooter who has been identified as a caucasian male who is probably in his late teens.
“We’re asking everybody to stay indoors,” Covelli said. “Stay vigilant right now.”

Rep. Brad Schneider, a Democrat from Illinois, claimed that the gunfire began as he and staff members were assembling at the parade’s beginning. Everyone is secure, he remarked.
He tweeted.
“My condolences to the family and loved ones; my prayers for the injured and for my community; and my commitment to do everything I can to make our children, our towns, our nation safer,” “Enough is enough!”
Law enforcement cars raced by residential streets on the 88 degree, cloudy day as homeowners waited tensely on driveways and sidewalks. Sirens blasted. The brick sidewalk strip that leads into the town’s center is lined with clothing boutiques, eateries, and gift shops. An enormous American flag waves above caution tape and rows of police vehicles.
Along the parade route were abandoned bikes, carts, and lawn chairs. As officers with weapons stood at the perimeter of a park downtown, curious city dwellers strolled along the sidewalks.
The 28-year-old Manuel Rangel reported seeing dozens of people rushing past his home and away from the procession route in the city.
