Ademola Lookman (born 20 October 1997) is an English professional footballer who is on loan from RB Leipzig and plays as a winger for Premier League club Leicester City.

Lookman made his senior debut in 2015 as a forward for Charlton Athletic in the Championship, and then signed for Everton in January 2017, where he primarily played as a winger. He played for England at the under-19 and under-21 levels, but he has subsequently petitioned to FIFA to switch his nationality to Nigeria.

Lookman was born in Wandsworth, South West London, to Nigerian parents who had immigrated to the country.

He went to Peckham’s St Thomas the Apostle College.

Lookman joined Charlton Athletic’s academy in 2014 after joining Waterloo, a youth football club based in Lambeth, London.

On 5 January 2017, Lookman signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Everton for an undisclosed cost, which was reported as an initial £7.5 million with add-ons potentially increasing to £11 million.

He signed a contract with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga until the conclusion of the 2017–18 season.

Lookman scored the game-winning goal in Leipzig’s first away encounter against Borussia Mönchengladbach after coming on as a late substitution.

Lookman signed a five-year contract with RB Leipzig on July 25, 2019, a year and a half after a brilliant loan spell with the German club in which he scored five goals in 11 appearances.

Lookman signed Leicester City on a season-long loan on August 31, 2021.

He made his Leicester debut in a 1–0 loss to Manchester City on September 11, 2021, as a 73rd-minute substitute.

Lookman was born in England to Nigerian parents and is eligible to play for both countries’ national teams.

When he was picked in the England U19 squad for their trip to Mexico, he received his first international call-up.

Following that, he was nominated to the European U19 Championships squad that summer. Lookman rejected down the chance to switch allegiance to Nigeria after being approached by national coach Gernot Rohr in early 2017.

In September 2017, he gained his first England under-21 call-up for European Championship qualifiers against the Netherlands under-21s and Latvia under-21s.

After meeting with the head of the Nigeria Football Federation in early 2018, Lookman turned down the country once more. After England senior manager Gareth Southgate persuaded him that he was part of his plans, he rejected Nigeria’s offers for the third time in September 2018.

Despite his caps and success for England at youth level, and despite earlier rejecting Nigeria’s offers, Lookman declared in January 2020 that he would be switching his international allegiance to Nigeria.

Lookman will not be able to play for Nigeria until he receives official FIFA approval.
