Akie, also known as Akie Matsuzaki (Matsuzaki Akie born 10th June 1962), is a well-known socialite. She comes from a wealthy family in Japan; her father was the former head of one of the country’s biggest confectionary firms, Morinaga & Co.

She completed her primary and high school education at the private Roman Catholic Sacred Heart School in Tokyo (also known as Seishin Joshi Gakuin), after which she received her degree from the Sacred Heart Professional Training College. Before marrying Shinzo Abe in 1987, Abe eventually worked for Dentsu Inc., the biggest advertising agency in the world. Despite trying unsuccessful reproductive treatments earlier in their marriage, the couple was unable to have children.

Abe was a radio host in her husband’s hometown of Shimonoseki in the late 1990s. She was well-liked in the media industry and went by the jockey alias “Akky.”
