He started his career in tornadoes in 2000. He had a passion for weather ever since age 9. Spahn works as a storm chaser at KTEN News, Oklahoma. He joined the KTEN Weather team in April 2019 to track local storms and provide eyes in the field on severe weather days.
While attending the campus, he participated in a Florida Tech study abroad program at The University of Oxford, Jesus College. This was during the summer of 2010 when he studied both calculus 3 and critical approaches in the literature.
In 2013, he volunteered in Moore after the devastating EF-5 tornado struck. This incident had a significant impact on his life and increased his interest. He chased after his first tornadoes in April 2017 and has since then seen 15 tornadoes across numerous states with his dog, Chaser.
Alex began working with the faculty at Southeastern Oklahoma State University as an instructor in 2015. He now teaches courses including Physics, Astronomy, and Earth Science. In 2020, he received the university’s Excellence in Teaching Award.
He is happy to work with the KTEN Weather team and the people of Texoma. Being able to provide live, first-hand information to help keep people both safe and alert.
