Babachir Lawal Biography

Babachir David Lawal (born 2 October 1954) is a Nigerian politician who served as Secretary to the Federal Government from 2015 to 2017. President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him on August 27, 2015.

President Buhari suspended Lawal as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on 19 April 2017 and officially relieved him of all duties on 30 October 2017 for misappropriating funds intended to alleviate the food crisis in Nigeria’s Northeast, which was largely caused by Boko Haram.

From 1979 to 1984, Lawal worked for Delta Steel Company in Ovwian-Aladja, rising to the position of Senior Engineer. From 1984 to 1986, he was a Principal Engineer at Nigerian External Telecommunications Ltd in Lagos. From 1986 to 1989, he worked at Data Sciences Nigeria Ltd, where he rose to the position of Regional Manager.

In 1990, Lawal founded his own company, Rholavision Engineering Ltd, in Kaduna. He successfully ran his own business until he was appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation on August 27, 2015.

He is also a member of the Nigeria Computer Society, the Nigeria Society of Engineers, and the Nigeria Council for Engineering Regulation.
