Gane was born in La Roche-sur-Yon, and his father is of Guadeloupean descent. His father, Romain Gane, was a bus driver and a Division d’Honneur footballer. Gane used to play football and basketball as a kid. Despite his athletic abilities, Gane chose to work in sales at a furniture company and participate in a work-study program in Paris. A old classmate introduced Gane to Muay Thai around this time.

Gane was set to face K-1 veteran Brice Guidon at La Nuit Des Titans after a decision win over Samih Bachar. Guidon was knocked out in the third round.

Gane knocked out Bangaly Keita in the third round at Warriors Night. At Duel 2, he was set to face Yassine Boughanem, a multiple-time WBC Muaythai champion. The bout was decided in favor of Gane.

Ciryl Gane made his professional MMA debut in 2018 under the tutelage of Fernand Lopez. His first contract was with the Canadian MMA company TKO, where he fought Bobby Sullivan for the vacant TKO heavyweight belt. He used a front choke to win the title bout in the first round.

A month later, he successfully defended his heavyweight title against Adam Dyczka, winning by TKO in the second round. Roggers Souza was his third fight in TKO and his second championship defense, which he won in the first round via TKO.

Gane made his official debut against Raphael Pessoa on August 10, 2019 at UFC Fight Night: Shevchenko vs. Carmouche 2. Gane won the bout in the first round with an arm triangle choke.

On October 26, 2019, at UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Askren, Gane fought Don’Tale Mayes. Gane was awarded a Performance of the Night bonus after winning the bout with a heel hook in the third round.

On December 21, 2019, at UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. The Korean Zombie, Gane fought Tanner Boser. He was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

On April 18, 2020, Gane was supposed to fight Shamil Abdurakhimov at UFC 249.

However, after developing a pneumothorax during training, Gane was forced to withdraw from the tournament on March 5, 2020.

The fight was eventually rescheduled for UFC 251 on July 11, 2020.

After Abdurikhimov was removed from the bout for unclear reasons, the pairing was cancelled a second time and scrapped from this event in mid-June. In turn, Gane was set to meet Sergei Pavlovich at UFC Fight Night 174 on August 8, 2020.

Pavlovich, on the other hand, had to withdraw due to an injury. As a result, the original fight against Shamil Abdurakhimov was rescheduled for September 26, 2020 at UFC 253; however, the fight was rescheduled for October 18, 2020 at UFC Fight Night 180.

On September 28, 2020, Abdurakhimov withdrew from the fight for unclear reasons, and he was replaced by promotional rookie Ante Delija. The battle was canceled on October 14, 2020, owing to Delija’s contractual issues with his previous engagement with the PFL.

On December 12, 2020, Gane fought Junior dos Santos at UFC 256. He won the bout in the second round by technical knockout.

On February 27, 2021, Gane fought Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC Fight Night 186. He was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

On June 26, 2021, Gane fought Alexander Volkov at UFC Fight Night 190.

On August 7, 2021, at UFC 265 for the Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship, Gane faced Derrick Lewis. In the third round, he won the one-sided battle by technical knockout. He won the Performance of the Night award for this fight.

On January 22, 2022, at UFC 270, Gane will challenge Francis Ngannou for the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
