CM Punk Injury; What Surgery Did He Undergo
CM Punk’s reign as AEW world champion has already met a hurdle.
Punk, 43, said on Friday night’s edition of Rampage that he’d sustained an injury that will require surgery just five days after becoming champion. The AEW world championship will not be relinquished by Punk, but an interim champion will be crowned in his place.
“The bad news is I’m injured and I need surgery. A couple of things are broken. The biggest one is my heart because I love nothing more than performing for all of you, and I wanted to go on one hell of a run. That’s the bad news,”
“The good news is, I can still do all that. I told you I was going to go until the wheels fall off. Well, the wheels are still there, they haven’t fallen off. It’s just that one of them happens to be broken. But I’ve come back from worse. I’ve felt better than I feel today, but I am here to tell you that I’ve also felt a hell of a lot worse. This is a bump in the road. It hurts. It hurts like hell. I want to wrestle for you.”
The injury was described by Punk as a broken “wheel.” He swore to come back larger, quicker, stronger, and more hungry than ever.
Punk addressed the fans on Rampage with tears in his eyes. He informed his audience that he had both good and bad news for them. CM Punk had to relinquish his AEW title due to the fact that he needed time off for surgery.
CM Punk, who won a championship at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view event last Sunday, walked to the stage on All Elite Wrestling’s Rampage on Friday night to announce his retirement from the sport.
Punk, who was visibly upset, stated that he would need time away from the sport, saying that due to many injuries, he now needs to put his brief reign as champion behind him.
Punk’s victory at the AEW pay-per-view event was his first since he was the WWE champion in 2013.
The Forbidden Door pay-per-view, which will take place on June 26, 2022, will crown an interim champion.
