David Adedeji Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer who was born on November 21, 1992. Davido combines traditional African themes with current pop music from throughout the world.

Davido Career

After releasing “Dami Duro,” the second song from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo, Davido won the Next Rated award at The Headies in 2012. (2012).

He also had a handful of hit singles between 2013 and 2015, and in January 2016, he inked a record deal with Sony Music. He then launched the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) record company, which has signed acts like Dremo, Mayorkun, Peruzzi, and Liya. Davido inked a record deal with Sony’s RCA Records in July 2016.

He released the 5-track EP Son of Mercy in October 2016, which featured the hits “Gbagbe Oshi,” “How Long,” and “Coolest Kid in Africa.” Davido renegotiated his contract with Sony in April 2017 due to creative control difficulties, and he released five singles later that year, including “If” and “Fall.”

“If” sparked widespread discussion on social media, while “Fall” became the longest-charting Nigerian pop single in Billboard history. Davido is known for being dubbed “the king of modern-day afrobeats.”

In November 2019, Davido released his second studio album, A Good Time, which was followed by tracks such as “Blow My Mind,” which featured prominent American singer Chris Brown. In 2019, New African magazine named Davido one of the Top 100 most influential Africans.

On Friday, November 13, 2020, he released his third studio album, A Better Time. Davido is the second most following African on the social media app Instagram as of August 2021.

David Adedeji Adeleke was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 21, 1992. Adedeji Adeleke, his father, is a business entrepreneur, and Vero Adeleke, his mother, was a university instructor.

Davido is the second-born son of his father and the youngest of five siblings.

He went to the British International School in Lagos, Nigeria, before returning to the United States to study business administration at Oakwood University in Alabama at the age of 16.

While at Oakwood, Davido purchased musical equipment and began producing beats.

He also formed the music group KB International with his cousins B-Red and Sina Rambo.

Davido dropped out of Oakwood University to focus only on music and traveled to London to perfect his vocals.

Davido suspended his music career after returning to Nigeria in 2011 and agreed to enroll in Babcock University to honor his father. After his father sponsored the university to build a music department for an initial class of one student, he graduated from Babcock in July 2015 with a degree in music.

Nigerian Entertainment Today claimed on April 6, 2012 that Davido has inked a $30 million endorsement agreement with MTN. He was named the face of MTN Pulse, a marketing campaign aimed at Nigerian youth, as part of the arrangement. Guinness Nigeria had signed Davido for an endorsement agreement, according to Pulse Nigeria on October 24, 2013.

As part of the deal, he performed alongside P-Square, D’banj, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Burna Boy, Olamide, Phyno, Chidinma, Waje, and Tiwa Savage at the Guinness World of More Concert.

After Wizkid headlined a concert at the O2 Arena in London in 2018, Davido became the first solo African artist to sell out the venue in January 2019.

Idris Elba presented him on stage, and he performed several of his big singles with the Compozers as his backup band.

The event received four out of five stars from Caroline Sullivan of The Guardian, who described Davido as a “alpha” and said that “much of his mannerisms are influenced by the American rappers with whom he has worked, like Young Thug and Swae Lee.”

On July 26, 2019, the Chris Brown-assisted tune “Blow My Mind” was released.

It was originally supposed to be released as the album’s lead single and was produced by Shizzi. The lyrics to “Blow My Head” are about a girl who simply blows Davido’s mind.
