The police stated that the case had not been satisfactorily resolved, implying that Mr. Adeyanju may have skipped bail. In violation of the Nigerian law prohibiting the detention of a suspect for more than 48 hours without charges, the activist was initially held without trial for several days.

The Kano State High Court granted bail to Mr. Adeyanju on February 18 after he had been detained for several weeks.
