She will represent the United States at Miss Universe 2021 as Miss USA. Smith is the second woman from Kentucky to win Miss USA, having previously been crowned Miss Kentucky USA 2021.

After one of her high school classmates, Brittany Reid, was crowned Miss Ohio Teen USA 2013, Smith became interested in competing in pageants. She did not enter a pageant until eight years later, with Miss Kentucky USA 2021 being her first. She represented Germantown and won the championship.
Smith won the chance to represent Kentucky in Miss USA 2021 as Miss Kentucky USA. Miss USA 2021 was held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on November 29, 2021.
