Sterling was born Eva Pigford in Los Angeles, California. Marcille, her middle name, is a combination of her grandmothers’ names “Marjorie” and “Lucille.” Her father is Puerto Rican and her mother is African American.

She went to Washington Preparatory High School, Marina Del Rey Middle School, and Raymond Avenue Elementary School (2002). She was a student at Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia, but dropped out after winning the third season of America’s Next Top Model at the age of 19.

Marcille won America’s Next Top Model’s third cycle in 2004, defeating fellow contestant Yaya DaCosta. A CoverGirl cosmetics contract, an Elle spread, and a modeling contract with Ford Models were among her accolades.
Marcille has been featured on the covers of Brides Noir, Women’s Health and Fitness, King, IONA, and Essence. CoverGirl, DKNY, Samsung, Red by Marc Ecko, Jewel, In Touch Weekly (June 2005), King (November 2005), WeTheUrban, IONA, UNleashed, Star Magazine, Elle, Elle Girl, Apple Bottoms, Lerner Catalog, Avon Campaign 4 and Rolling Out are among her other modeling credits.

She revealed in August 2019 that her daughter’s surname has been legally changed from McCall to Sterling.
