Ezi Magbegor Career – Magbegor quickly gained interest from professional leagues after beginning her career in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) with Basketball Australia’s development club, the Centre of Excellence. Magbegor was signed by the Canberra Capitals for the 2017–18 WNBL season in July 2017.

Magbegor inked a three-year contract with the Melbourne Boomers in March of this year. Despite receiving offers from US colleges, Magbegor will debut for the Boomers in the 2018–19 WNBL season, opting to stay in Australia and work alongside the likes of Jenna O’Hea, Lauren Jackson, and Guy Molloy.

Magbegor won the Betty Watson Australian Youth Player of the Year award (previously the WNBL Rookie of the Year award) at the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) Awards in February 2020, receiving 38 votes out of a possible 42.

Magbegor made her international debut as a 16-year-old with the U19 Gems in the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Championship in Russia. She then competed in the 2015 Oceania Championships for the U17 Sapphires. Throughout the tournament, he dominated, averaging 18 points per game and assisting Australia in winning gold. After that, Magbegor led the Sapphires to their first World Championship victory in Spain.

Australia won gold after ending the United States’ 28-game winning streak at the U17 level. Magbegor was chosen to the All-Tournament Team alongside two of her teammates. She was also honored with the Most Valuable Player award.

Magbegor was named to her maiden Opals squad in December 2017, earning her a spot in the first camp as preparations for this year’s competitions began.

Magbegor was named to the final roster for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where she would make her Opals debut, after participating in the squad camp in February.

Magbegor shone for the Opals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, scoring 17 points in a pre-tournament friendly against the United States, tying Breanna Stewart for the game’s highest points. Magbegor then led Australia in scoring during the Olympic tournament, with 20 points and eight rebounds in her Olympic debut against Belgium, and 15 points against China.

Magdebor, like the rest of the Opals women’s basketball squad for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, had a rough tournament.
