Abubakar was born in Kano but is of Kogi descent. She attended Ideal Primary School in Kano before going on to study Sociology at Bayero University in Kano.
She made her acting debut in 2001 with a small part in Rejected. Her breakthrough performance came in Gangster Paradise. She also runs Modehouse Entertainment, a music label and entertainment management firm.
Halima decided to pursue a career in Nollywood after graduating from university.
