Bill Gates Commits $150 Million To Delivery of Vaccines So It Can Be Cheaper For Millions

Billionaire Bill & Melinda Gates through his foundation The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed another $150 million to the massive manufacturing and delivery of up to 100 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines so that low- and middle-income countries can easily access during first half of 2021.

The funding by his foundation was made through the foundation’s Strategic Investment Fund which is patterned as an interest-free, forgivable loan.

The funding was made to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, a public–private global health partnership founded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000.

Gavi is also expected to provide the upfront capital to the Serum Institute of India (SII), the world’s largest vaccine maker.

Back in June, the Gates Foundation pledged US$1.6 billion to Gavi over the next five years.
