Health Minister Reveals Drug Nigeria Uses To Treat Covid-19 Patients

The Honorable Minister of Health Dr. Osagie Ehanire has revealed the drug used by hospitals in the country to treat Covid-19 patients.

He says that Nigeria has started using remdesivir, an anti-retroviral drug, in managing COVID-19 patients.

He made this revelation when addressing members of the house of representatives on Tuesday, Ehanire also added that the drug has already been administered to patients in Lagos state.

He said,

“We have been using that (remdesivir); we have tried that in Lagos too,”

“So, we have tried the antiretroviral drug to see what effect it has.”

However, the minister did not reveal the outcome effects of the drug on patients who were treated with it.

The development of the drug and it’s surrounding experiments are part of the effort put in place by a team of doctors and scientists in America of which Dr. Babafemi Taiwo is part of. The company involved in its production is Gilead, located in the USA
