Holger Rune (born April 29, 2003) is a professional tennis player from Denmark. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has him rated as high as world No. 40 in singles, which he first attained in May 2022. Rune has one ATP Tour singles win, and his best Grand Slam achievement came at the 2022 French Open, where he reached the quarterfinals in his main event debut.

Rune was ranked No. 1 in the world as a junior and won 10 titles on the ITF Junior Circuit, including the boys’ crown at the 2019 French Open. He won five victories on the ITF World Tennis Tour and five on the ATP Challenger Tour after becoming professional in 2020, and he entered the top 100 rankings in January 2022.

Rune made his first ATP Tour final three months later at the 2022 BMW Open, where he won his maiden title and climbed into the top 50.

Aneke Rune and Anders Nødskov gave birth to Rune on April 29, 2003 in Gentofte, Denmark. Alma is his sister’s name. Because his sister played tennis, he began playing at the age of six and began to pursue the sport seriously. Lars Christensen, who is currently his head coach and, along with his mother, is credited as his primary inspiration, coached him throughout his childhood. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, both tennis players, were his childhood heroes.

Rune won the 2019 French Open boys’ singles title on June 8, defeating Toby Alex Kodat.

Holger won a match at the 2019 Blois ATP Challenger in June after receiving a wildcard. He was 16 years, 1 month, and 18 days old at the time. In July, Holger competed in the 2019 Amersfoort Challenger, winning his second ATP Challenger match.

After defeating Harold Mayot in the ITF Junior Finals on October 28, 2019, he was ranked World No. 1 in the ITF Juniors.

At the 2019 ATP Finals, Rune was a practice partner.

At the age of 16, Rune made his professional debut in 2020. Rune gained a wildcard into the qualifying draw for the 2020 Auckland Open, but lost in straight sets to Vasek Pospisil.

Holger became the youngest player to compete in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) in July 2020, where he was defeated by Corentin Moutet of France.

Rune earned his first ITF title at an M25 event in Switzerland in September 2020. By the end of 2020, he’d reached three more ITF finals, winning two of them.

He reached the fourth round of the 2022 French Open for the first time in his career on his debut, defeating 14th seed Denis Shapovalov, his second top-15 win of the season and career, Henri Laaksonen, and Hugo Gaston all in straight sets along way. As a result, he is now ranked among the top 40 players in the world.
