Ye (born Kanye Omari West on June 8, 1977) is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, and fashion designer better known by his stage name Kanye West.

He is widely regarded as one of the most influential hip hop musicians of all time, as well as one of the greatest musicians of the twenty-first century.

Born in Atlanta and raised in the predominantly white, middle-class suburb of Oak Lawn, Illinois, West rose to prominence in the early 2000s as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records, producing singles for several artists and pioneering the “chipmunk soul” sampling style.

He released his debut studio album, The College Dropout (2004), to critical and commercial success, with the intention of pursuing a solo career as a rapper. Later that year, he established the record label GOOD Music.

Among his other honors are the Billboard Artist Achievement Award, three Brit Awards for Best International Male Solo Artist (a joint record), and the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
