China Backs WHO To Investigate Virus Origin After Trump’s Alarm

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday said that he is fully supporting an investigation into the origin and genesis of the novel coronavirus.

This is coming following an international response to it’s spread after 120 nations joined the US President, Donald J. Trump’s calls for an investigation into the novel Coronavirus pandemic at the United Nations General Assembly.

Initially, it was learnt that China had previously rejected a WHO investigation, pointing fingers to the USA, saying it was an attempt by the United States to blame Beijing. However, in a twist, Xi Jinping, the Chinese president announced in a virtual address on Monday, that he supports an international review led by the World Health Organization.

China says it will pledge massive $2 billion to the fight against the virus that has now killed at least 300,000 people and infected more than 4.7 million worldwide.

Speaking to the World Health Organization’s annual meeting of the World Health Assembly on Monday, Xi Jinping said that China would support the WHO in conducting an investigation, while defending his country’s actions saying, that his country has “acted with openness, transparency and responsibility.”

President Trump who has been critical of China in recent times, said on April 30, that he had a “high degree of confidence” the virus originated in a Wuhan laboratory, China responded to his claims by making an animated propaganda video mocking the American response.
