Members of the Federal House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to construct roads around the Boko Haram Haven, Sambisa Forest. This also includes ruralcommunities located around the area known for terrorist activity.
The House of Reps affirmed and agreed together stating that the roads would open up the area and also stop constant attacks by Boko Haram terrorists.
The call was made at Tuesday’s plenary session following a motion by Haruna Mshelia who hails from Borno. Mshelia, who spoke in a concerned manner said that many community that have boundaries with Sambisa do not have roads connecting them, hence aiding insurgents and causing hardship for locals who want to flee the terrorists. He also added that this lack of roads are causing the locals difficulty in accessing other places.
The lawmaker also said the roads would also boost the agricultural output of the locals who majorly dealt in farming and agriculture.
The house of Reps eventually adopted the motion, subsequently directing the North–East Development Commission to meet with relevant government agencies and ministries to commence the construction of the road, taking into consideration it’s urgent nature.
