Those of us who watch Nigerian movies are aware of the implications in the delay of the arrival of a grandchild.
At least, Patience Ozokwor serves us with a unique reminder with the scenes she often creates in movies. The pressure is enormous and sometimes, unbearable. This is understandable because, in times past, children used to be counted as a part of one’s resources and so a lack of them meant that one has not lived a fulfilled life.
Although such perceptions are changing, it is not absurd to discover that there are a lot of females who still go through a lot of stigmatization because of their inability to produce offspring.
Here, we chronicle some female Nigerian celebrities who have struggled with infertility.
1. Funke Akindele
She’s definitely one of Nollywood’s finest and funniest. Her struggle with infertility came to an end in 2018 when she gave birth to twins. Prior to that, she made several attempts to conceive via the usage of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
2. Ufuoma McDermott
Her story was quite inspiring. In fact, her first child was birthed by means of IVF in 2012. Ufuoma McDermott is now a mother of two children. She lifted the lid on the usage of IVF to give birth to her first child. She said;
3. Stephanie Coker-Aderinokun
She also had her child via IVF. She said that she shared her struggle with infertility because of the number of women she met who had fertility issues. Stephanie revealed that she was diagnosed with Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome. She got married in 2017 and gave birth to a baby girl in November 2019.
4. Nse Ikpe-Etim
During an event dubbed, “Conversation with Nse” which was held in Lekki, she revealed that in 2016, she was diagnosed with Adenomyosis which led to the removal of her womb.
She revealed that the realization of the fact that she would not be able to have kids made her fall into periods of depression.
