Noah Lyles (born July 18, 1997) is a professional track and field sprinter from the United States who competes in the 100 and 200 meters.

In the 200 m, he is the 2019 world champion, the 2020 Olympic bronze medallist, and the 2022 world champion. Lyles’ personal bests in the 100 meters are 9.86 seconds and the 200 meters are 19.31 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Lyles holds the American record.

During the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, he earned a gold medal in the 200 meters. During the 2016 World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, he won gold medals in the 100 m and the 4 x 100-meter relay. At the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, he won gold medals in the 200 meters and the 4 x 100-meter relay.

Lyles earned a gold medal in the 200 m at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games for the United States.
Lyles won the 200 m at the New Balance Nationals Indoor in March 2016. Lyles won the 100 m and 200 m at the 2016 Arcadia Invitational in April 2016, setting new meeting records of 10.17 seconds and 20.48 seconds, respectively.

Lyles won the 100 m in 10.08 seconds at the USA Junior Championships in June 2016.

Lyles competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100 m and 200 m in July 2016 for a berth on the Olympic squad. He did not progress from his initial 100 m heat, but in the 200 m, he won his semi-final and then finished fourth in the final in 20.09 seconds, breaking a 31-year-old national high school record.

Though he did not qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics, he did qualify for the 2016 World U20 Championships, where he won two gold medals, the 100 m and the 4 100 m relay.

Lyles could only achieve a bronze medal in the 200-meter men’s final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on August 4, 2021, with a timing of 19.74 seconds, equaling his season’s best at the USA Olympic Trials earlier that year. On August 21, he followed up his Olympic effort with a 19.52 (+1.5) in Eugene, Oregon, his second best performance and the ninth fastest 200 m mark in history.

In 2022, Noah Lyles posted the third-fastest time in history and surpassed Michael Johnson’s American record, crossing the finish line in 19.31 seconds and dominating the men’s race.
