Ryan Grantham Mother; What Happened To Her and Why

According to authorities, the Riverdale actor who murdered his mother allegedly wanted to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

In April 2020, Ryan Grantham, 24, admitted to shooting his mother in the back of the head while she was playing the piano in their Vancouver home.

Ryan Grantham’s mother is Barbara Waite. She sadly passed away on March 31, 2020 after her son Ryan Grantham fatally shot her at the back of her head.

What Happened To Ryan Grantham Mother

Grantham confesses to killing his mother, Barbara Waite, 64, with a single gunshot to the back of the head on March 31, 2020, in their home in Squamish, British Columbia. Prosecutors showed video taken by Grantham with a GoPro camera.

Grantham proceeded on a half-baked plan to assassinate Trudeau the next day. He had three firearms, ammunition, and 12 Molotov cocktails in his automobile.

He also carried Google Maps instructions to Trudeau’s home, Rideau Cottage, in Ottawa.

Grantham, on the other hand, did not get very far. He traveled from Squamish, which is roughly 25 miles north of Vancouver, to Hope, which is about 75 miles east. Grantham traveled for approximately two hours instead of the roughly two days it would have taken him to get to Ottawa.

According to the CBC, Grantham turned around with intentions of doing a mass massacre, but finally drove to a Vancouver police station and confessed his act.

The court was shown footage of one of his walk-throughs shot on a Go-Pro camera.

He films his mother’s body while saying, “I shot her in the back of the head.” In another video made after the killing, he films his mother’s body while saying, “I shot her in the back of the head.” She would have recognized me in the moments that followed.”

In a statement, Grantham said he spent the hours following the murder consuming marijuana, drinking beer, and attempting to build molotov cocktails.

Before leaving in his automobile the next day, he placed candles around his mother’s body.

After many calls and messages remained unanswered, his sister Lisa Grantham found their mother’s body that evening.

Why Did Ryan Grantham Kill His Mother

Grantham’s notebook, in which he wrote about his troubles with depression and other mental health issues, was read by investigators.

“Mr. Grantham’s contemporaneous account in the journal is very self-aware, very introspective,” prosecutor Michaela Donnelly said. Grantham did not say anything of significance at Tuesday’s hearing.
