Mandel was not judging in the July 12 program, despite his performances in recent weeks.
The auditions today mark the second time the longstanding judge / comic has been absent for a prolonged period of time, since he was also absent from an episode earlier this season. The argument at the time was that Howie was ill.
Given that the show frequently airs auditions out of order from when they were filmed, it’s likely that the acts you see tonight will be the same.
You don’t have to worry about it because How will come back sooner or later.
Remember that these auditions were shot months ago, giving him plenty of time to heal.
For the duration of tonight’s program (or at least sections of it), Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, and Heidi Klum will be on their own.
They’ll give their verdicts on the acts, and we’ll hear from Howie later on who progresses.
We’re confident that he’ll end up viewing all of the auditions he didn’t attend, so there’s no real danger of his not knowing anything about them.
While Howie’s absence is unfortunate, it is not unheard of for AGT to be without one of their judges for an audition episode.
This is something we’ve seen happen here and there throughout the years, and they’re lucky to even have Cowell around considering his hand/wrist ailment, which has forced him to wear a cast for the length of this year’s auditions.
We’re hoping that by the time we get to the live events, he’ll have fully recovered and be ready to go.
