Yuhua Hamasaki, also known as Yuhua Ou, is a Chinese-born American drag queen, singer, actor, and reality television personality who rose to prominence on RuPaul’s Drag Race’s tenth season.
Ou was born in Guangzhou on March 1, 1990. She moved to New York City when she was seven years old and began performing drag on the club kid scene as Yuhua. Later, she added Hamasaki in honor of Japanese idol Ayumi Hamasaki. Pace University awarded Ou a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Prior to Drag Race, Hamasaki was one of several drag queens who performed Katy Perry’s “Swish Swish” on Saturday Night Live in May 2017.
Prior to her appearance on Drag Race, she also designed outfits for Aquaria, Bob the Drag Queen, Peppermint, Aja, Jiggly Caliente, Alexis Michelle, and Monét X Change. Miss Fire Island, Miss Fire Island All Stars, Miss Stonewall, and Miss Asia NYC are among the titles she has won.
In 2018, Hamasaki released her first single “The Ankh Song,” named after her runway look from episode one, which the judges noted resembled an Ankh. On April 5, 2018, a music video was released. She currently resides in New York City.
