Maria Mendiola (born 4 April 1952 – 11 September 2021) is a Spanish singer who was known to be a member of the Spanish duo Baccara and a singer and dancer.

The group Baccara was founded in 1977 in Madrid by Maria Mendiola and singer Mayte Mateos. Their first single, “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie,” reached number one in ten European nations, including the United Kingdom, and has sold over 16 million copies.
The song was then performed by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, The Fratellis, and Goldfrapp before being accepted as Scotland’s unofficial anthem at the Euro 2020 football tournament earlier this summer.

The band issued two more albums, but by the mid-80s, Mendiola and Mateos had split up, forming two separate Baccara groups (named Baccara and New Baccara) that recorded and performed independently.
Mendiola’s version of the band, which included co-vocalist Marisa Perez, had the most success in the 1980s, earning three Hi-NRG club hits with Touch Me, Fantasy Boy, and Call Me Up.
