Pelé died on December 29, 2022, at the age of 82, at the Albert Einstein hospital in So Paulo, Brazil. Pelé had been hospitalized for the last month with multiple ailments after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2021.

Pelé, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is widely regarded as one of the greatest soccer players of all time. Pelé, who was born on October 23, 1940 in Tres Coracoes, Brazil, began playing soccer at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks of Brazilian club Santos FC. Pelé made his debut for the Brazilian national team in 1958, at the age of 17, and helped lead them to World Cup victory.
Pelé scored 1,281 goals in 1,363 games during his career, including 77 goals in 92 appearances for the Brazilian national team. He won three World Cups with Brazil, in 1958, 1962, and 1970, and is the tournament’s all-time leading scorer. Pelé was well-known for his superb ball control, speed, and ability to score from any angle. He was also a fantastic passer and team player.
Pelé is well-known for his humanitarian work in addition to his achievements on the soccer field. Throughout his career, he has worked as a UN peace ambassador and with various charitable organizations. Pelé was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Brazilian Football Museum in 2006 and the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1998. In 2004, Time magazine named him one of the world’s 100 most influential people. Despite his numerous honors, Pelé remains humble and is widely regarded as a true ambassador of soccer.
