Shohreh Aghdashloo was born in Tehran, Iran, to a middle-class family. She developed an interest in acting at a young age and began her career in Iranian theater at the age of 18. In the late 1970s, Aghdashloo moved to England to study at Brunel University London, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations.

Aghdashloo’s acting career began with stage performances in Tehran, and she later appeared in Iranian films such as Gozaresh (1977) and Shatranje Bad (1976). Shohreh Aghdashloo was married to Iranian playwright and painter Aydin Aghdashloo from 1972 to 1980. After their divorce, she moved to the United States and later married actor and playwright Houshang Touzie in 1987. The couple has a daughter, Tara Touzie, who was born in 1989. Aghdashloo is an advocate for human rights, especially for women’s rights and refugee issues, and has used her platform to raise awareness about these issues.
