Taylor Hawkins (17 February 1972 – 25 March 2022) was an American musician best known as the drummer of the rock band Foo Fighters, with whom he recorded nine studio albums from 1999 to 2021.
Before joining the group in 1997, he toured with Sass Jordan, Alanis Morissette, and Sylvia, a progressive experimental band.
Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, a side project he founded in 2004 and in which he played drums and sang, released three studio albums between 2006 and 2019. In 2020, he co-founded the supergroup NHC with Jane’s Addiction’s Dave Navarro and Chris Chaney, where he was also the lead vocalist and drummer.
As a member of Foo Fighters, Hawkins was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. In 2005, Rhythm, a British drumming magazine, voted him “Best Rock Drummer.” On March 25, 2022, at the age of 50, he passed away in Bogotá, Colombia.
In 2005, Hawkins and his wife, Alison, wed. They have three children together. In 2012, they relocated to Hidden Hills, California, from Topanga Canyon.
In August 2001, Hawkins overdosed on heroin, which left him in a coma for two weeks.

On March 25, 2022, emergency services were dispatched to the Four Seasons Casa Medina hotel in Bogotá, Colombia, where Hawkins was experiencing chest pain in his room. 50-year-old Taylor Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene despite CPR efforts by medical personnel. There was no cause of death listed.
The next day, Colombian authorities announced that an initial toxicology test of Hawkins’ urine revealed that he had ten substances in his system at the time of his death, including opioids, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, and THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis.
