Kareem ‘Biggs’ Burke, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, has criticized Kanye West’s newly released ‘White Lives Matter’ t-shirt.
In an exclusive interview with TMZ, the recording executive stated that he is “not with” the message because it was “born out of something different.” He went on to say:
“We should focus on the lives that was lost and how much people that was hurt and all the injustice that’s been done.”
Kareem ‘Biggs’ went on to say that the message on the t-shirts may cause more harm than good, because it is hurting the people and families who have suffered the most as a result of police brutality and racial discrimination.
Who is Kareem “Biggs” Burke?
Kareem “Biggs” Burke (born January 19, 1974) is a businessman, record executive, and film producer from the United States. He is best known for co-founding Roc-A-Fella Records with Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Damon “Dame” Dash.
Burke co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records with Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Damon “Dame” Dash in 1995. Burke and Carter Dash also co-founded Rocawear in 1999. Def Jam Recordings purchased Roc-A-Fella Records in 2004. (which had previously only owned half of the company). In late 2005, Carter purchased Dash and Burke’s stake in Rocawear.
Burke was sentenced to five years in prison on June 4, 2012, after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana.
Burke was sentenced to prison and ordered to forfeit $15,000 in cash, his $660,000 New Jersey home, and his BMW car. Burke was released from prison in November 2015.
