Brent Renaud (born October 13, 1971) is an American Award-winning journalist who was killed during the Russian Invasion of Kyiv in Ukraine. He was shot dead in the town of Irpin, outside Kyiv. He formerly worked with the New York Times.

Brent Renaud Parents and Background – Brent Anthony Renaud was born in Memphis on October 13, 1971, and grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. Louis Freasier, his father, was a salesperson, and Georgann Freasier, his mother, was a social worker.

Brent Renaud Career

Renaud had reported from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Haiti for a number of US news organizations. He won a Peabody Award for his work on the Last Chance High series about Chicago schools, which aired in 2014.

He was located in New York and Little Rock, Arkansas, and frequently collaborated with his brother, Craig, who was also a filmmaker. It’s unclear whether Craig had also visited Ukraine.

From 2018 to 2019, Mr. Renaud was a fellow at Harvard University’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism.

Mr. Renaud “was creative and gentle, and his work was imbued with humanity,” said Ann Marie Lipinski, curator of the Nieman Foundation, on Twitter on Sunday. “The world and journalism are less for it,” she remarked, lamenting his passing.

How Brent Renaud Died/Cause of Death

Brent Renaud, 51, was shot on Sunday while photographing refugees crossing the border in Irpifn, Ukraine. Juan, Brent Renaud’s colleague, was also hurt, but he survived and was brought to the hospital.

When Russian soldiers opened fire on the couple, they were in a car and had just gone through a checkpoint. Brent Renaud, their driver, was shot in the neck and died at the scene after attempting to turn around.

Brent Renaud had been shot in the neck and ‘had to be left behind,’ according to another US journalist who survived the incident and spoke to an Italian reporter from the hospital.

At the time of the incident, Juan Arredondo was with the American journalist.

At the time of the incident, Renaud was accompanied by Juan Arredondo, a Colombian World Press Photo award-winning photojournalist.

Brent Renaud, a 50-year-old American journalist, was confirmed as the victim by Kyiv Region police on Twitter.

As evidence, police posted a photo of his body and U.S. passport, as well as a snapshot of his name on a press credential from The New York Times.

According to The New York Times, an assistant to Ukrainian Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko said in a statement that Renaud “paid with his life for trying to reveal the aggressor’s insidiousness, cruelty, and ruthlessness.”
