Who is Julian Strawther?
Julian Lee Strawther, born on April 18, 2002, is a Puerto Rican-American basketball player who currently plays professionally for the Denver Nuggets in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs, a part of the West Coast Conference (WCC).
During his high school years, Strawther was part of the basketball team at Liberty High School in Henderson, Nevada. In his junior year, he averaged 27.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. His career reached a high point on January 28, 2023, when he scored a personal-best of 40 points in an 82–67 win over Portland. In the 2023 NCAA tournament against UCLA, Strawther’s 35-foot basket made with just six seconds to spare gave Gonzaga the lead. The team then managed to maintain this lead, earning them a place in the quarterfinals.
Julian Strawther’s Parents
Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, Julian Strawther is the son of Lee (Father) and Lourdes (Mother) Strawther, who have played a significant role in his basketball career since his birth. Despite being a public figure, Julian has kept his family life rather private, rarely discussing his family in the public sphere.
A tragic event in Julian’s life was the loss of his mother, Lourdes, who passed away from breast cancer when Julian was just nine years old. This devastating loss, however, did not deter Julian from pursuing his basketball aspirations.
Another influential figure in Julian’s life has been his paternal grandfather, Lieutenant Colonel Edward Strawther. A World War II veteran, Edward was a pioneer in the Nevada community, founding one of the state’s two African-American newspapers, the Las Vegas Sentinel. Julian’s life and career have been significantly shaped by the commitment and hard work of his parents and grandparents.
