Ntando Duma was born in the Johannesburg suburb of Orange Farm, Gauteng. She was raised by her mother and grandmother in the slum of Orange Farm, which is around 45 kilometers from Johannesburg. Thando Duma, her sister, is one of her three siblings.

My grandmother raised me in Orange Farm. We didn’t have much to begin with, so none of us had pocket money or were able to attend expensive schools. However, we were able to live a normal childhood. We played games like any other kid on the street and didn’t give a damn about what was going on at home.

When she was three years old, her father abandoned the family and died in 2008.
