Rainer Schaller (born January 4, 1969) is a German businessman. He is the founder and CEO of the RSG Group, which owns and operates McFit, John Reed, and Gold’s Gym fitness studios. He made headlines as a result of the 2010 Love Parade disaster in Duisburg.

Rainer Schaller entered the fitness industry in 1997, opening his first McFit studio in Würzburg, Germany.

McFit had 62 fitness studios in Germany by mid-2006, with 400,000 members and 1,000 permanent employees.

McFit was the largest fitness studio operator in Europe in 2011, with over 1 million members.

Schaller gradually expanded his business to reach different demographics.

The McFit Global Group holding company was renamed RSG Group in August 2019 and now includes twelve fitness chains (including McFit, John Reed, High 5).

Schaller purchased Gold’s Gym in 2020, which was bankrupt due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Schaller’s group of companies employed 41,000 people in 48 countries by the end of 2020, managed 17 different brands, and had over 1,000 studios.
