Rodrygo (born 9 January 2001) is a Brazilian footballer who now plays as a winger for Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team.

He started his career with Santos, where he appeared in 80 games and scored 17 goals before joining Real Madrid for €45 million in 2019. Rodrygo earned his senior international debut for Brazil in 2019, when he was only 18 years old.

Rodrygo signed his first professional contract on July 21, 2017, after agreeing to a five-year deal. Interim manager Elano elevated him to the main squad on November 1st.

Rodrygo made his first team – and Série A – debut on November 4, 2017, in a 3–1 home triumph over Atlético Mineiro as a late substitution for Bruno Henrique.

He made his senior debut on January 25, scoring a last-minute winner in a 2–1 Campeonato Paulista away win against Ponte Preta.

Rodrygo made his Copa Libertadores debut on March 1, 2018, in a 2–0 away loss to Real Garcilaso, replacing Eduardo Sasha; at 17 years and 50 days, he was Santos’ youngest player to feature in the competition. He scored his first goal in the tournament fifteen days later, netting his team’s second goal in a 3–1 win over Nacional at the Pacaembu Stadium; at the age of 17 years, two months and six days, he was the youngest Brazilian to score in the competition until fellow Santos youth graduates Kaiky and ngelo broke his record.

Rodrygo scored his first goal in the top flight of Brazilian football on April 14, 2018, as he scored the final goal in a 2–0 home win over Ceará. He scored a hat-trick and assisted Gabriel’s final goal in a 5–2 home win over Vitória on June 3.

Rodrygo’s jersey number was changed from 43 to 9 on July 26, 2018. (a number he already wore during the Libertadores). For the 2019 season, he switched numbers once more, this time to jersey 11, which was formerly worn by fellow young graduate Neymar.

Real Madrid and Santos agreed on a trade of Rodrygo on June 15, 2018, with the midfielder joining Los Blancos in June 2019 and signing a contract until 2025. The rumoured fee was €45 million[18], with Santos collecting €40 million because the club controlled 80% of his rights and Rodrygo’s representatives owned the remaining 20%.

Rodrygo made his first team debut on September 25, 2019, and scored his first league goal against Osasuna in under a minute.

On November 6, at the age of 18 years and 301 days, he scored his first hat-trick and provided an assist for the club against Galatasaray in a 6–0 win in the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League season. He is the second-youngest player in tournament history to score a hat-trick, as well as the first player born in the twenty-first century to score. In his first season, he made 19 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring two goals in the league as they won the 2019–20 La Liga.

Rodrygo scored the game-winning goal in a 3–2 victory over Inter Milan in the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League on November 3, 2020.
