Gatt was born on December 3, 1971, in the Notting Hill neighborhood of London, to Maltese immigrant parents; his father is from Paola and his mother is from Lija.
He spent his childhood summers in Malta with his family. He found he was color blind as a teenager, which prevented him from pursuing his ambition of joining the Royal Air Force and becoming a fighter pilot. He believes that the stress of the news contributed to his alopecia universalis, which he was diagnosed with at the age of 12 and had completely lost his hair by the age of 14.

He began his acting training at the Sylvia Young Theatre School before enrolling in the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, where he earned a bachelor’s degree.
Gatt’s first film role after graduating from drama school was in Orpheus & Eurydice, opposite Oliver Reed in one of Reed’s final films. He has appeared in a number of musicals on the West End of London and on national tours. He also had a successful modeling career in Europe and the United Kingdom, working for brands such as Armani, BT, Gucci, Guess, Levi’s, Northern Rock, and Vogue.

Gatt was arrested in his house on April 6 after officers executed a residential home search warrant, according to the LAPD. The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) of the Los Angeles Police Department got a report that he had allegedly used the Internet to communicate sexually explicit messages with a minor in another state. Detectives apprehended Gatt for having “contact with a juvenile for sexual offense” on an outstanding felony warrant. The LAPD asked other victims or anybody with relevant information to contact them immediately in a news release posted to their website on Tuesday.
According to TMZ, Gatt was released the following day on $5,000 bond.
