Pope Benedict XVI Cause of Death

Pope Benedict XVI’s cause of death has not been disclosed. Pope Benedict has been in poor health in recent years, he suffered a mild stroke in 2005 and retired from the papacy in 2013.

The Vatican has announced the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. The former Catholic Church leader was 95 years old. He was Pope from 2005 to 2013, when he stepped down due to ill health.

In an earlier update, the Vatican stated that Benedict’s health was deteriorating but that he was stable. Pope Francis took over for him nine years ago. According to the Holy See Press Office, Pope Emeritus died at 9:34 a.m. on Saturday morning in his residence at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery, which the 95-year-old Pope emeritus chose as his residence after resigning from the Petrine ministry in 2013.

A statement was released which read,

“With sorrow I inform you that the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, passed away today at 9:34 AM in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican. Further information will be provided as soon as possible. As of Monday morning, 2 January 2023, the body of the Pope Emeritus will be in Saint Peter’s Basilica so the faithful can bid farewell.”
