Bruce Johnson, sometimes known as C. Bruce Johnson, was an American TV news anchorman and reporter for WUSA 9 (CBS) in Washington, D.C. from 1950 to 2022. His areas of specialization included politics and urban affairs, as well as investigative and hard-hitting feature stories. His personal narrative included never knowing his biological father, training to become a priest, and graduating from college first in his family. At the age of 52, his mother received her diploma.

Heart to Heart and All or Nothing, The Victor Page Story were both written by Johnson.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences bestowed 22 Emmy Awards on Johnson (NATAS).

Johnson received the Board of Governors Award from NATAS in 2018. In 1984, he also received the Ted Yates Award, which was only presented with the unanimous approval of the NATAS Board of Directors. Johnson was recognized into the Society of Professional Journalists Hall of Fame in 2003. He was also a member of the Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C.

For his volunteer work, Johnson was honored by the District of Columbia Council, D.C. mayors, and hundreds of civic and community organizations and charities.

Johnson spent three years at Kentucky State University before starting his broadcasting career with WCPO-TV, a CBS station in Cincinnati. He transferred to Northern Kentucky University and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1973. Later, he graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a master’s degree in public affairs. Johnson spoke at NKU’s commencement ceremony in 2018. An honorary doctorate degree was bestowed upon him.

Johnson belonged to the National Press Club, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He was a national advocate for heart attack and cancer survivors. On April 3, 2022, he passed away.
