In 2004, after Richard W. Mangus, a Republican state representative, announced his retirement, Walorski competed for a seat in the Indiana House of Representatives.

The suburban region between South Bend and Elkhart was included in Indiana’s 2nd District, for which she ran. Democrat Carl H. Kaser was beaten by Walorski by a margin of 64 to 36 percent.

With 53% of the vote, she was elected to a second term in 2006. She won an uncontested third term in 2008.
